Student Affairs Council

I. Purpose

 A. Purpose: To advocate for those students, staff and faculty wishing to improve the quality of  the student experience at Northwestern State University and to serve as an information exchange between those interested bodies.

 B. Responsibilities

  1. Assess all student services provided by Northwestern State University.

  2. Function as a centralized body for hearing suggestions for the improvement of the student experience.

  3. Act as an advisory and resource group to the committees under the Student Affairs Council and the university community.

  4. Assess the function of the university's Student Affairs committees.

  5. Serve as an advisory body for proposed changes to the Northwestern State University Student Handbook.

  6. Hear regular reports from Student Affairs committees.

  7. Recommend potential members of university Student Affairs committees to the Dean    of Students, when such positions remain vacant for an excessive period of time.

II. Membership

 A. Committee Coordinator: The Committee Coordinator shall be appointed by the Dean of  Students for a term of one year.  The Coordinator shall not have voting power. The Committee  Coordinator will be responsible for calling and presiding over meetings, appointing a recorder  for each meeting, and ensuring that minutes are distributed to all voting and advisory members,  and to the Dean of Students, the University President, the President of the Student Government  Association and the President of the Student Activities Board.

 B. Voting Membership: All members shall be appointed for a term of one year. A majority of  voting members must be present to constitute quorum and conduct business.
  1. One representative from the Department of External Affairs, appointed by the Dean of Students with approval of the Vice President for External Affairs
  2. One representative from the Department of Academic Affairs, appointed by the Dean of Students with approval of the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs
  3.One representative from the Department of Business Affairs, appointed by the Dean of Students with approval of the Vice President for Business Affairs
  4. One representative from the Department of University Affairs, appointed by the Dean of Students with approval of the Vice President for University Affairs
  5. One representative from the Department of Student Affairs, appointed by the Dean of Students
  6. One representative from the Natchitoches community, appointed by the Dean of Students
  7. One representative from the Student Government Association, appointed by the Student Government Association
  8. One representative from the Student Activities Board, appointed by the Student Activities Board
  9. Four students, representative of the entire student population, appointed by the Student Government Association.  These students shall not be elected or appointed officials within the    Student Government Association.
  
 C. Advisory Board
  1. One representative from the Auxiliary Services Exemption Committee
  2. One representative from the Book Store, Food Service and Post Office Committee
  3. One representative from the Committee on Organizations
  4. One representative from the Disciplinary Appeals Committee
  5. One representative from the Parking and Traffic Committee
  6. One representative from the Parking and Traffic Appeals Committee
  7. One representative from the Residence Life Committee
  8. One representative from the Safety and Awareness Committee
  9. One representative from the Student Affairs Staff Development Committee
  10. One representative from the Student Self-Assessed Fees Oversight Committee
  11. One representative from the University Diversity Committee
  12. One representative from the Wellness, Intramural and Recreational Sports Advisory Committee
  13. One representative from the Who's Who Among American College Students Selection Committee

III. Operational Plan

 A. The committee will meet at least once each semester, as arranged by the Committee
 Coordinator or when called by the Dean of Students.
